Both styles cover the entire window. However, full-height shutters consist of a single panel from top to bottom (though the louvres can often be split to tilt independently). Tier-on-tier shutters feature completely separate top and bottom panels, opening much like a stable door. This allows you to fold the top half completely open while leaving the bottom closed.
They look stunning and perform beautifully on taller windows, sash windows, and bay windows, particularly in older or period properties. However, because the design requires horizontal framing where the top and bottom tiers meet, we don’t usually recommend them for very small or short windows, as the extra frame can block out too much natural light.
Yes, they are very popular in bedrooms! However, it is worth noting that because there is a small gap where the top and bottom panels meet, you may get a slight light bleed.
